Tranquil Layers – Handcrafted Planters

Michelle's Third Space

In my studio practice, I hand-build stoneware vessels—primarily planters—that invite a sense of serenity and quiet contemplation. Each piece, whether sculptural or functional, reflects my fascination with natural forms and layered time. My work draws inspiration from the meditative beauty of sedimentary rock, expressed through the Japanese nerikomi technique and the soft, expressive features of head and animal planters.

These vessels are meant to evoke a peaceful presence, whether nestled among indoor greenery or placed in an outdoor sanctuary. Many feature closed eyes, gentle smiles, and flowing patterns—echoes of the stillness found in nature and the calm that comes from tending to it.

Over time, my studio has become more than a workspace; it’s a creative hub for making, learning, and sharing—a third space where community and art converge.
